Lagos Assembly

No fewer than 221 candidates are contesting for the 40 seats in the Lagos House of Assembly on various platforms in Saturday’s elections, a list of the contestants has shown.
According to the list, the candidates for the assembly seats in Lagos are jostling under 17 political parties across the 20 local government areas in the state.
Only 43 of the contestants are female while the remaining 178 are male.
Also, the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress have contestants in all the 40 state constituencies while the other 15 parties do not have candidates in some constituencies.
The Alliance for Democracy is contesting in 28 constituencies, Progressive Peoples Alliance in 20, Accord Party in four, Labour Party in 18 and All Progressives Grand Alliance in 23.
The list also shows that the Unity Party of Nigeria, KOWA Party and New Nigeria Peoples Party are contesting in two constituencies each.
Also, the National Conscience Party and United Progressive Party are vying for seats in nine constituencies each, African People Alliance in 7, while Social Democratic Party and Mega Progressive Peoples Party are vying in five each.
The Peoples Democratic Movement is seeking for seats in six constituencies and the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria in one.
Sixteen candidates, comprising 14 male and two female, also indicated their intention to contest for the governorship seat in the state.
Ten of the candidates had, last week, however said they were shelving their ambitions in support of the APC candidate, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode.
Some parties, also on Thursday, endorsed the PDP governorship candidate, Mr Jimi Agbaje.
