A group, Northern Minority Alliance for Balanced Leadership (NOMIBAL), said the north has no moral right to contest for presidency in 2027.
Mr Alhamdu Pane, the Acting Secretary and Spokesperson of the group, said this at a news conference on Thursday in Abuja.
“The north has no moral right to seek power so soon after holding presidency, especially when there is an unwritten pact that power should rotate between the North and South.
“This principle has ensured national stability, and as President Bola Tinubu is only in his first term, fairness dictates that he should be allowed to complete a second term,” he said.
Pane said that democratic fairness must be upheld and distanced NOMIBAL from any plan to unseat Tinubu in 2027.
He said that Tinubu’s administration has taken steps to include northern minorities in governance.
“We firmly believe that Nigeria is on the right path under the leadership of Tinubu and as we look ahead to 2027, we must consolidate on these gains.
“We pledge to mobilised, organise and work tirelessly to ensure his second term.
“We believe that his administration is the best chance we have to cement the inclusion of the Northern minorities in Nigeria’ governance,” he said.
Pane commended the Federal Government, under the leadership of Tinubu for the steps taken to develop the northern minority communities.
He said the approval of the dualisation of Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi- Gombe road, and the establishment of the North Central Development Commission were major areas that have impacted on minority communities in the north.
Pane said that the northern minorities have also benefited with the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kaduna State.
He said the group was not out to praise sing but to ensure that leaders were held accountable to the people.
