2027: Kwankwaso’s son secures Kano NDC running mate slot

Mustapha Musa-Kwankwaso, son to the former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa-Kwankwaso, has emerged as running mate to the Kano State Governorship Candidate of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Aminu Abdussalam-Gwarzo.
This is contained in a statement by the spokesperson to the governorship candidate, Ibrahim Garba-Shuaibu, on Monday in Kano.
Shuaibu said the announcement was made on Monday following the formal presentation of Kwankwaso before the party’s caucus and key stakeholders during a consultative meeting held in Kano.
According to him, the selection of Hon. Kwankwaso was described as a strategic and well-considered decision aimed at strengthening the party’s vision of inclusive governance, youth empowerment, economic development, and effective service delivery across Kano State.
“Hon. Kwankwaso emerged as the party’s preferred choice after extensive consultations and careful consideration of several qualified individuals,” he said.
Shuaibu quoted his principal, Gwarzo expressing confidence in his running mate’s capacity to contribute meaningfully to the administration’s agenda, noting that Kwankwaso’s experience, leadership qualities, and grassroots appeal make him a valuable asset to the ticket.
According to the statement, Mustapha Kwankwaso, a former Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Kano State, brings with him extensive experience in public service, youth development, and community engagement.
“The NDC believes the Gwarzo-Kwankwaso ticket represents a strong combination of competence, experience, integrity and commitment required to address the challenges facing Kano State and provide purposeful leadership for its citizens.
“The choice of Hon. Mustapha Kwankwaso is widely regarded as a significant boost to the party’s political structure and grassroots support base as the NDC intensifies preparations for the 2027 governorship election.
“The party reaffirmed its commitment to providing a credible alternative for the people of Kano State and called on members, supporters, and stakeholders to remain united in advancing its vision of progress, transparency, accountability, and good governance”, the statement added.
