The Labour Party has announced Hajja Konto as its vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
Konto will run alongside the party’s presidential candidate, Dr Chibuzo Okereke.
The party disclosed the nomination in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja by its National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa.
Asogwa said the choice of Konto followed wide consultations with party stakeholders.
He said the nomination reflected the Labour Party’s commitment to competence, integrity, inclusion, patriotism and service-driven leadership.
The party described Konto as a public health expert, humanitarian leader and development practitioner with more than 30 years of professional experience.
According to Asogwa, her work in healthcare delivery, humanitarian response and community development has made her a respected figure, especially in Northern Nigeria.
He said Konto had earned recognition as a bridge builder because of her engagement with communities, institutions and vulnerable groups.
The Labour Party spokesperson said Konto retired from Catholic Relief Services after serving in several leadership roles.
These included her role as Community and Government Liaison Programme Officer.
Asogwa said she coordinated engagements with government institutions, traditional leaders, civil society organisations and local communities.
Her work covered health, nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene, as well as humanitarian programmes.
He added that Konto also supervised humanitarian interventions in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states.
According to him, those interventions supported vulnerable persons, including internally displaced persons affected by insecurity and humanitarian crises.
The party said Konto is a trained nurse, midwife, health educator and public health specialist.
She also holds a Master’s Degree in Public Health.
Asogwa added that she had previously lectured in Community Health and currently serves on the Global Fund Country Coordinating Mechanism.
He said her background in governance, humanitarian coordination, women’s empowerment and public policy implementation would support the party’s agenda for national renewal.
The Labour Party said her nomination also demonstrated its commitment to gender inclusion, national unity and competent leadership.
Asogwa noted that the Okereke-Konto ticket reflects Nigeria’s diversity and the aspirations of citizens seeking a better country.
He said the party’s presidential team would focus on people-centred leadership, improved security, economic recovery and stronger national institutions.
The Labour Party called on Nigerians to support Dr Chibuzo Okereke and Hajja Konto in the 2027 presidential election.
According to the party, the ticket offers a vision for a united, secure, prosperous and just Nigeria.
