Super Eagles Head Coach, Stephen Keshi, has expressed satisfaction with the performance of invited Super Eagles players so far, ahead of their encounter with Chad.

Keshi spoke in Abuja on Friday, after the team’s first training session, following his return as the team’s coach.

He commended the players for their performance on day one of the training.

The Eagles will face their Chadian counterparts on June 13 in Kaduna, in the first leg qualifier for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

“Right now, a lot of them are a bit jittery and anxious because they are in front of the big boss.

“I tried to work on every department of football, fitness, techniques, tactical play just to see what they can do.

“The potentials are there; this is not the only players we can get in Nigeria, but this is the group that I want to start with and then, we can subtract and add.

“But I like what I am seeing, by the time they settle down, it will be much better.’’

According to Keshi, his return as the team’s handler is a privilege after his first stint with the team.

“I feel good and happy to be among these young stars; I think any other coach will feel the same way.

“It’s a privilege to coach the national team after I played for so many years, captained the team for 14 years.

“It’s God’s blessing; let’s see how it will go.’’

Keshi also said that the list for the foreign-based players to join the home-based squad for the Chad encounter would be made available next week.

Twenty one of the 26 invited home-based players participated in the training, while the remaining five players, drawn from Warri Wolves FC, are expected to join the training on May 23 (Saturday).

The Warri Wolves players invited to the Super Eagles camp featured in the team’s league encounter against Abia Warriors at the Warri City Stadium.

The Nigeria Football Association (NFA), and Keshi had, on May 20, given the players a two-day extension to report to camp after the initial May 19 deadline.

The grace period was to enable the players prosecute their mid-week league matches.
