2016 CHAN: Oliseh targets trophy to boost Eagles’ FIFA ranking

Super Eagles Head Coach, Sunday Oliseh, says he is optimistic that Nigeria will win the forthcoming Africa Nation’s Championship (CHAN) to boost the team’s World football ranking
Toyin Ibitoye, the Eagles Media Officer who spoke on behalf of the coach, said this on Tuesday in Abuja.
According to him, Oliseh’s desire for the trophy is to improve the recognition of the tournament by FIFA.
“The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Eagles coach Oliseh, are taking CHAN very seriously because it has become an internationally recognised competition, which means that it can affect the FIFA ranking.

“It is hoped CHAN can be used to improve the Eagles ranking before draws for the 2018 World Cup in June,’’ he said.

Ibitoye said that Oliseh was concerned about the team receiving adequate preparation for the tournament scheduled to take place in Rwanda from Jan. 16 to Feb. 7, 2017.

“Preparation is key to winning the championship.

“Oliseh has assured that the team will do better than it did the last time when it finished the competition as the third best; in fact, he wants to win the trophy,’’ he added.

He, however, failed to say when the players would be invited to camp in preparation for the tournament but noted that it would be in December.
