Ahead of the 2015 governorship election in Akwa Ibom, Governor Godswill Akpabio has said that it is only God who would determine his successor at the Hilltop Mansion.
Akpabio stated this when he addressed the people
of Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area during a civic
reception in his honour, after he inaugurated some projects executed in the area by his administration.
At the event, which took place at the Council Secretariat, Oko Ita, the governor, represented by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Emmanuel Enoidem, said: “Beyond human imagination, whoever pleases God will be the next governor of Akwa Ibom State.”
To this end, he called on the people to go into prayer, so that the same God, who visited Akwa Ibom in 2007, that has resulted in the change of fortunes for the state, to also give another leader that would continue with the Uncommon Transformation programme of his administration.
“Governor Akpabio has given a sense of dignity, respect and
responsibility to Akwa Ibom people, hence, we need the sustenance and sustainability of this culture and a man, who is competent and has the capacity to continue with the current tempo of development of the state.”
According to him, Akpabio has raised the profile of Akwa Ibom, through his unprecedented performance, especially in the provision of free and compulsory education and basic infrastructure across the state.
“If there’s any government in the history of Nigeria and Akwa Ibom State that has been so sensitive to the plights of the people and passionate about provision of infrastructure, it is the government of Chief Godswill Akpabio.”
At the palace of the Paramount Ruler of Ibiono Ibom, Ikot Udom, the governor’s representative, who was accompanied by some members of the State Executive Council, including a native of the area and Commissioner for Finance, Mr Bassey Akpan, acknowledged the massive support of the people to the ruling party.
The support of Ibiono Ibom people, he mentioned, has in turn yielded great dividends for the area, in terms of infrastructural development, appointments and other unquantifiable benefits, as has been done in other parts of the state.
