The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed the death of a 20-year-old man who drowned in an open water body in the state.

The incident occurred in the Madinawa area, located behind Seven-Up in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano.

This was disclosed by the Director of the service, Alhaji Sani Anas, in a statement issued through the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi

According to the fire service, the agency received an emergency alert from the Mariri Police Division, reporting that an individual had fallen into the water.

Rescue personnel were immediately dispatched from the fire service headquarters to the scene to carry out recovery operations.

The victim was eventually retrieved from the water, but he was confirmed dead upon rescue.

Authorities said the body was handed over to the Deputy Criminal Operations (DCO)officer for further investigation.

The identity of the deceased had not been confirmed at the time of the report.

The fire service has advised residents to avoid swimming or bathing in open water sources, warning that such practices pose serious safety risks.
