President Muhammadu Buhari has extended his congratulations to the Super Eagles on the spectacular 2-1 win against Angola in the African Nations Championships (CHAN) quarter-final match on Sunday in Morocco.
A statement by Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity to the President, Malam Garba Shehu, said Buhari, who watched the match in his hotel room in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia after a long day of African Union (AU) meetings, which started at 8 am and ended at 5:30 pm, wished the players “the very best for the upcoming matches”.
The sterling displays of Ikechuwkwu Ezenwa earned him the man-of-the-match award as the Super Eagles beat Angola 2-1 to secure a place in the semi-final of CHAN 2018.
Sunday’s game had to be settled in extra-time after Anthony Okpotu drew Nigeria level in stoppage time after Angola took the lead in the 55th minutes.
And in extra time, Okechukwu Gabriel grabbed the match winner to send the home-based Eagles to the last-four.
Man of the Match was goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa, who pulled off several big saves to ensure the Eagles stayed in the reckoning.
