Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan on Tuesday said Sunday’s 1-4 loss to Kano Pillars FC in the Glo Premier League was a temporary setback they would immediately overcome.
The club’s Media Officer, Jubril Arowolo, said in Ibadan, Oyo State that hosts Kano Pillars deserved their victory though.
Arowolo said they were, however, looking at the defeat as a temporary setback to the team’s winning spirit.
“The coaching crew and the players have been urged to put the defeat behind them and look ahead to the next match.
“After reviewing the loss in Kano, the team will have to respond to the defeat by getting a good result when we meet Kwara United on Sunday in Ilorin,’’ he said.
Arowolo said there was no point looking for a scapegoat among the players.
“We have to put the defeat behind us, because it is just a game out of many. You cannot blame anybody, because it is a collective failure.
“We have started preparations ahead of the next match, where we hope to respond to the disappointment. There is no time to waste. Kano Pillars did their best in Kano.
“The goals were coming and they were good goals. The officiating was above average too.
“We played well, but lost all our scoring chances, except one towards the end of the match,” he said.
The club spokesman said they now have to raise their game, after having won the first round fixture in Ibadan 2-0, with goals coming from Najeem Olukokun and Femi Ajayi.
“We must respect our opponents and face the truth. There is no easy match in the league. Moreover, Kwara United lost to Wikki Tourists in Ilorin in their last home fixture,’’ he said.
Arowolo, however, said the club should do well since their midweek match in Ibadan against Nasarawa United was postponed because of the Lafia side’s Federation Cup match.
“The postponement has given the players an opportunity to prepare well for Sunday’s match in Ilorin,’’ he said.
