Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno, has condemned the recent attack on Sabongari community of Damboa Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

This is contained in a statement by Prof. Usman Tar, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, issued on Thursday in Maiduguri.

The governor, who described the attack as a desperate attempt to destabilise the ongoing progress in the state, condoled with the Armed Forces and families of soldiers who lost their lives in the incident.

“On behalf of the government and people of Borno, I convey our deepest condolences to the armed forces and families of the deceased and wounded soldiers.

“May Allah rest their souls and grant fortitude to their loved ones,” the statement quoted Zulum as praying.

The governor, who commended the gallantry of the troops stationed in Damboa, noted that in spite of the attack, they successfully defended their position and prevented further damages.

Zulum further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working closely with the military toward ensuring sustainable peace and development in the state.

“The enemies of our people are eager to challenge our collective will and reverse the gains we have made in resettling communities and restoring livelihoods, particularly in the agricultural sector.

“But I want to assure the armed forces and the people of Borno that together we shall achieve lasting peace,” Tar quoted Zulum as saying

The governor, who lauded the resilience of residents of the affected community, urged them to continue to support the military in their bid toward securing the state.

He also commended the military for its professionalism and assured them of government’s unwavering support in the fight against insurgency.

The governor also reiterated the state government’s resolve to implementing developmental programmes aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence at all levels.

Zulum further described the attack as an isolated incident, insisting that it would not stop the ongoing efforts aimed at securing all parts of the state.

Gunmen on Jan. 4, attacked Sabongari in Damboa LGA, killed six soldiers and destroyed some military equipment.

However, troops significantly neutralised the gunmen, while others escaped with various degrees of injurie
