Gov. Bello Matawalle of Zamfara said his administration has constructed 450 houses for junior civil servants in the state.

Matawalle, who disclosed this on Sunday while inspecting the housing estate at Daza area in Gusau said the houses would be given to the junior civil servants on owner-occupier loan basis to be paid on 40 per cent discount.

He said the gesture was part of his administration’s commitment to the promotion of the welfare of civil servants even after their retirement.

“I am here to supervise the level of work done and even the civil servants are not aware of my mission of building these houses.

“This is part of my mission to provide gesture to civil servants particularly the junior officers.

“The beneficiaries of the gesture would be civil servants on Grade Levels 1 to 7,” the governor said.

Matawalle wondered how some civil servants spent 35 years working after retirement and would not have a single room to live.

He said: “Apart from the 450 houses for junior civil servants, we have another project to build 1000 houses out of which 600 would be given to senior civil servants.

“All the houses would be paid by the civil servants with their salary in a period of ten years.

“I have directed office of the state Head of Service and Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) leadership in the state to do all the necessary arrangements to distribute the houses to the beneficiaries,” Matawalle added.

Responding, the State NLC Chairman, Sani Halliru, commended  Matawalle for the gesture.

Halliru promised the judicious distribution of the houses to the beneficiaries.
