A youth corp member, Osamusanmi Afe Tosin, has organized a five-day entrepreneurship training programme for staff and students of Adeyemi College of Education (ACE), Ondo.

The exercise began on Monday July 25 and ended on Friday July 29, 2016 in the College.

Speaking at the commencement of the exercise, Osamusanmi, who is currently undertaking her one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme at the Division of Student Affairs (DSA) in the College, explained that the free entrepreneurship training exercise, was

organised in order to reduce level of unemployment and poverty among

unemployed youth, and to provide means of livelihood to less

priviledged persons including physically challenged and widows in the

College and Ondo community in general.

While bemoaning the plight of unemployed youth in the country, the

Youth Corp member, opined that the situation could be addressed

through provision of skill acquisition and establishment of

entrepreneurial training centres across the country. She stated that

the step would enable those who offered themselves for the training to

acquire necessary skills that would transform them from job seekers to

employment providers.

She listed areas where participants undertook training during the

five-day exercise to include bead and wire-work production;

hairdressing, soap making, cream, perfume and disinfectants

production.

Others are bridal handfan / bouquet production; makeover, facial art,

bridal gele production, tie and die, banner making, T-shirt

customization as well as web design.

In addition, she also stated that participants were also trained in

areas which include driving, agro fishing, cake and confectionaries

production; photography / Video editing, bags/ souvenirs production,

shoe making, DSTV installation, POP ceiling / Cement art work as well

as fashion designing and cellphone repairing.

Osamusanmi expressed appreciation to the Management of ACE under the

leadership of Prof. Olukoya Ogen, for giving approval for the exercise

to hold in the institution.

She equally thanked corporate bodies which included Mobile

Telecommunication giant, Airtel as well as an indigenous company,

Trend and the Ondo State branch of the Chartered Institute of Project

Management (CIPM) for supporting the programme.

Delivering a paper entitled: ‘’ How to create, manage and increase

multiple means of income and ‘’How to start my own business’’ at the

closing ceremony of the programme, the Ondo State Coordinator of CIPM,

Mr. Omon Ogude represented by Mrs. Akinwumiju Dunni, an Architect,

lauded the initiative of Osamusanmi and expressed optimism that the

programme would go a long way in adding values to the lives of the

participants.

Omon equally stated that knowledge acquired at the training would be

of immense benefit to the participants and the society at large.

While harping on the need for youth to embrace entrepreneurship

training as means to becoming self-reliant, the Ondo State Coordinator

of CIPM said the decision would help in making them job providers and

boost economic fortunes of the country.

He, therefore, appealed to the government at all levels in the country

to give more attention to the provision of employment opportunities

through the establishment of skills acquisition centres, where he said

job seekers could be trained on ways to acquire necessary skills that

would enable them to make valuable contributions to national

development.

The programme held at the Grace Obongawan Ekong Lecture theatre

featured activities which include empowerment of participants by

Airtel with recharge cards, exhibition of finished products made

during the five-day training exercise and presentation of

certificates by the representative of Mr. Omon Ogude, Mrs Akinwumi

Dunni to participants who distinguished themselves during the training

programme.
