Osun State Association of Medical and Dental Officers (OSAMDO) has described as ‘total falsehood’ a statement credited to the Osun State government that it has reached an agreement with the state over unpaid seven months salaries of its members.
Besides, OSAMDO, in a statement on Wednesday by the Chairman and Secretary, Dr. I.A. Adekunle and Dr. O.S. Subair, noted that their members fully supported all actions taken so far by the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) over the issue on non-payment of salaries and other allowances by the state government.
“NMA is an umbrella body for all medical practitioners in private and public service and we will abide with any further directives made in pursuant of improvement in welfare of our members,” OSAMDO stated.
According to the association, the statement by the government spokesman in reaction to NMA’s appeal to the state to re-evaluate its priorities in the disbursement of resources was not only divisive but also false.
“The breakdown of our unpaid salaries as at press time is as follows; 60% November, December, January, February, March, April and now May salaries”.
The association did not deny that several meetings were held with OSAMDO by the state government and all centered only on welfare of our members, saying that its members had no pact with the state over the unpaid salaries.
OSAMDO explained that even if any agreement is going to be reached, it had to be the release of “our accumulated seven months salaries and deductions due to the association and to all other civil servants in the state, including pensioners.
The medical doctors explained that there was no hidden place for the state government over the issue of non-payment of salaries of workers while calling on Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s administration to show “more commitment to payment of all the seven months arrears of workers to its workers and pensioners”.
