Yoruba Ko’Ya: Jakande lived a graceful, exemplary, purposeful life

Yoruba Ko’Ya Leadership and Training Foundation, home and abroad, join in condoling all citizens and residents of Lagos State on behalf of all South West residents in Nigeria and in diaspora, on the peaceful passage of former Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande, one of the remaining closest loyalists and associates of Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo at a ripe age of 91 years.
We, in the Foundation, take solace in the Lord that LKJ lived a graceful, exemplary, purposeful and modest life throughout his sojourn here in Nigeria, despite various opportunities in his plates, to enrich and elevate himself to economic and political godfatherism, as currently been witnessed in our environment.
LKJ delivered a well conceptualised Mass Rail line as Electric Train between Agege & Obalende and indeed commenced practical construction before he and others were booted out of office through a Military coup, that eventually cancelled the project, which could have launched Lagos State to an enviable Mega City in transportation.
The non-implementation of this project and non continuation of similar Railway projects, later embarked by Government of Lagos State and by NRC/Federal Ministry of Transport Nigeria, are indeed sad moments for LKJ and others, as thoughts on how could we as a people gotten to these low levels of governance? And the answers are all in the winds….blowing gently or wildly.
You have always told those close to you, that the Chief of Staff, the Secretary to Government and 1st Lady’s are important posts in democratic governance, that must be filled strictly by observing Federal quota in a true federating system, but the occupants are to be seen and not to be heard. Surely these are words of wisdom for those who have ears to hear.
Baba please assure other saints ahead of you, that all Yorubas seems to have recently woken up from slumber, and may soon have one strong advocacy voice for Constitutional Freedom.

Adieu Baba LKJ.
