Yobe dep gov involved in accident, escapes unhurt; 18 passengers die in Bauchi auto-crash

Deputy Governor of Yobe State, Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu, was on Monday involved in an accident at Dakatsalle town in Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident occurred around 1 p.m. when a vehicle on high speed hit his official car.
According to the witness who preferred anonymity, Aliyu’s convoy had made a brief stop over at the town during which the incident happened.
He said that the driver of the private vehicle was trying to avoid a mad man who was loitering on the road.
“It was in the process of avoiding the lunatic that the driver of the vehicle lost control and hit the official car of the Deputy Governor.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the state, Mr Aminu Umar, confirmed the incident.
“The incident happened but it was a minor one because there was no loss of live and nobody sustained any injury.

“The Deputy Governor is now at the Government House, Kano, to condole Governor Abdullahi Ganduje over the death of his mother.

Meanwhile, the Bauchi State Police Command said on Monday that no fewer than 18 passengers died in an auto crash on the Bauchi-Jos Highway.
A statement in Bauchi by DSP Mohammed Haruna, the spokesman of the command, said the accident occurred on Sunday.
He said that accident, which occurred at Buzaye Village on Bauchi to Jos road, involved a DAF Truck with registration number XC-675-BAU and a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number BAU-148-XR carrying 18 passengers.
Haruna said that the truck was heading to Jos when it collided with the bus coming from the FCT which caught fire.
He said that a Police patrol team attached to GRA Division and men of Fire Service from Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Bauchi rushed to the scene on rescue mission.
He confirmed that the 18 passengers were certified dead by doctors at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital Teaching Hospital Bauchi and their corpses were deposited at the hospital mortuary.
Haruna said that two of the deceased were identified as the driver of the bus, Alhaji Adamu Maijama’a, 45, of Jahum, Bauchi and one Yahaya Umar, 41 years, Unguwan Dawaki, Bauchi.
The spokesman said that the case was under investigation and efforts were being made to ascertain the actual cause of the accident.
He called on members of the public whose relatives travelled from Abuja to Bauchi on Sunday to visit Abuja Motor Park and check the passengers manifest.
