The UN Climate Change Conference in Dubai is due to welcome world leaders on Friday.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the leaders of the European Union, French President Emmanuel Macron and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan are expected to be among the 170 global leaders attending the conference.
Scholz plans to promote his international climate club, in which particularly ambitious countries are to work together in the fight against global warming.
The climate club set up by Scholz, which is due to officially begin its work on Friday, aims to focus on industrial policy.
The 33 current member states plan to discuss how greenhouse gases that are harmful to the climate can be reduced in the sector.
This involves the development of standards and definitions of “green” industrial products and raw materials – such as steel and cement.
British King Charles III, who has long been a passionate climate campaigner, is also expected to attend the conference in Dubai on Friday.
The wars in the Gaza Strip and Ukraine are likely to be in the spotlight.
Speeches are planned by Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria is also expected to be at the conference where Africa will make a presentation.
