The Nigeria Football Supporters club and others sports’ clubs on Saturday said they would on June 4 join hundreds of its members in the Diaspora in Nairobi for the 2014 World Cup return-leg qualifiers.
Super Eagles’ return-leg against Kenya would hold on June 5, in Nairobi.
The Eagles were forced to a 1-1 draw by the Harambee Stars in the first leg of the qualifiers played on March 23 in Calabar, Cross River.
Mr Samuel Ikpea, the Secretary of the club, told NAN in Lagos that the members planned to be in Nairobi on June 4 for adequate preparation ahead of the qualifier on June 5.
“We had concluded preparations for the return leg. We had contacted our members in other African countries to be in Nairobi in large number for the return-leg.
“Members from Ghana, South Africa, Tunisia and others, had assured us that they will be in Kenya to cheer the African Champions to victory at the second-leg,’’ he said.
He said that the club planned to mobilise large numbers of its members because of the situation surrounding the return leg.
Nigeria is in Group B of the World Cup qualifiers alongside Malawi, Namibia and Kenya.
Nigeria is currently topping the group’s table with five points from three matches. Won its first match 1-0 against Namibia, drew its second 1-1 against Malawi and also drew the third 1-1 against Kenya.
“Although, Nigeria is leading in Group B, the return leg against Kenya is crucial because it is a must win for the Eagles for consolidation in the group.
“The club is also worried of any antics and pranks that the Harambee Stars could manifest during the encounter.
“We are not frightened of their antics or pranks, but we still need to mobilise adequate support for the Eagles to triumph,’’ he said.
The secretary, however, urged the team’s handlers and players to be determined, courageous and focused for the match, stressing that their opponent could be tricky.
