World Cup 2026: Chelle begs again over Nigeria’s absence

Super Eagles Manager, Eric Chelle, has again apologised to Nigerians over the failure of the Super Eagles to pick a ticket to the 2026 World Cup.
The World Cup kicks off on June 11 and the reality is getting clearer as teams get ready for the Mundial.
Chelle said: “I am really sorry that Nigeria did not qualify for the World Cup. We have the quality to be there but sadly, we did not make it. Also for our failure to win the AFCON, I apologise again.
“I want to continue to work hard with this team and I thank the federation and Nigerians for giving me this opportunity.”
Although, Chelle won most points out of three coaches that handled the Eagles for the qualifiers, the lifeline fell on his laps.
He took the Eagles to South Africa and failed to win the crucial away tie that could have changed the fortune of the team.
Chelle was also in charge in the playoffs as the Eagles lost on penalties to Congo DR.
Football-loving Nigerians are deeply hurt because it’s a back-to-back absence for the Super Eagles.
The last World Cup appearance for Nigeria was at Russia 2018.
