Women World Cup: Chinese players to get $161,000 jumbo allowance

Chinese government said on Monday that it would pay 1 million Yuan, approximately $161,000 as bonuses to Chinese women team for reaching the World Cup quarter-finals.
Yu Hongchen, vice president, Chinese Football Association, told newsmen in Beijing that: “the allowance would be the highest-ever in women’s national team history.’’
The Steel Roses reached the last eight of the World Cup for the first time since 2007 by defeating Cameroon 1-0 on Sunday.
The 1999 World Cup runners-up have struggled in recent years to retain their early prowess.
Unlike some of its rivals in the global game, China has no professional women’s soccer league.
“We have made tremendous improvement in the past two or three years,’’ assistant coach Chang Weiwei was reported as saying.
