The South-East Professional Women Association of Nigeria and Diaspora (SEPWAND), a non-governmental, not for profit organisation, has presented a Special Recognition Award to Senator Emmanuel Andy Uba, the Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial district in recognition of his impact towards the well-being of the people from the South-East over the years, especially women and children.
Presenting the award plaque on behalf of SEPWAND, Mrs Nwanganga Ibeh described the award as “well deserved” for a man of the people with vision for the protection of women and their empowerment.
“We have followed with keen interest your efforts towards the empowerment and protection of Women, we are confident that your relationship with SEPWAND will produce the desired impact that will help us achieve our set goals and objectives which are to eradicate the girl-child abuse, sex slavery and all forms of violence against women and to empower the girl child”. Mrs. Ibeh said.
SEPWAND further honoured Uba with the title of “DIKE IGBO” as a mark of appreciation on his various contribution to the development of Anambra State.
In accepting the award, Uba thanked SEPWAND for the honour and recognition in this dire time while expressing his readiness to look into their demands; and where possible adopt useful Legislations to reduce the business of illegal Adoption Centres that have encouraged the vulnerability of girl-child into sex slavery.
Uba received the visiting women alongside two of his colleagues, Senators Shehu Sani and Sunny Ogoji.
He spoke further on the recent blackmail and attempt to soil his name for political purposes, noting that more of such blackmail will come but it won’t stop him from achieving his set mandate for his people.
In addition, Uba reiterated his commitment to the people of Anambra State, whom he said deserves a better governor with human feelings and a man closer to the people and understands their plight.
