A 24-year-old woman,Vera Opara, on Tuesday appeared before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing her lover’s $200 and N13,000 at a hotel room.
Opara, who resides at No. 42, Thomas Animashaun St., Aguda, Surulere, is facing charge of stealing.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
But the prosecutor, Sergeant Oluwagbenga Salami, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 10.
According to him, the complainant, Mr Ayanu Ogechukwu, invited the woman to his hotel room and after sometime, he slept off.

“Ogechukwu slept off in the room, while the accused was still with him. When he woke up, he discovered that his money had been stolen. When the complaint called Vera on phone, she started insulting him and saying she only took N7,000 and not $200 from his wallet,’’ Salami said.
He said the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.N. Ojumoro, granted the accused bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety, who should be gainfully employed.
The case has been adjourned till July 29.
