A 42-year-old woman, Arike Ademilola, who allegedly attempted to set her landlord ablaze by pouring petrol on him, was on Thursday charged before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Ademilola, a resident of No. 2B, Roland St., Alakuko, Lagos, is facing a three-count charge of breach of peace, attempt to commit felony and unlawful damage.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Uche Simon, told the court that the accused committed the offences on February 2.
Simon said that Ademilola attempted to murder her landlord, one Seyi Adeboye, by pouring petrol on him and his curtain, which she set ablaze.
He alleged that the accused and her landlord had a misunderstanding over throwing dirty water around the compound.
“Instead of the accused to be sober and do the right thing, she flared up and poured petrol on Adeboye’s body and his curtain and set it ablaze,’’ he said.
Simon said the offences contravened Sections 166, 348 and 404 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Section 404 stipulates a seven-year jail term for offenders.
The Senior Magistrate, Mrs Y.R. Pinheiro, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to March 1, for mention.
