Woman, 30, docked for allegedly assaulting police officers

A 30-year old woman, Yinka Afolabi, was on Tuesday, arraigned before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for allegedly assaulting police officers.

Afolabi, whose address was not provided, is being charged with conspiracy, assault and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.

She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecutor, Insp Oladejo Balogun, told the court that the defendant committed the offence at about 10.30 p.m on May 27, at Elebu area, Ibadan.

Balogun said that Afolabi gathered people to assault police officers who were on duty at the area.

The prosecutor further stated that the defendant resisted being arrested by police officers who were performing their lawful duties.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 516 and 249(d) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs Olasinmibo Sanusi-Zubair granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until June 6 for hearing.
