Wolves target Al-Merrikh scalp

Warri Wolves striker, Okikimusampa Onomuefe, has said his side are going for massive victory against the Sudanese giants Al-Merrikh Sporting Club.
The Seasiders will welcome the Red Castle to their fortress, Warri City Stadium, on Sunday for the second-round first-leg clash of Africa’s first tier club competition, CAF Champions League.
The Nigerian top-flight side claimed a first-round walkover against the Sao Tome and Principe side, Sporting Praia Cruz.

Onomuefe said their target is to achieve a convincing victory that will make the reverse fixture clash in Omdurman, Sudan, a mere formality.

“Al-Merrikh are good side. Warri Wolves too are equally a good side; we are coming out on Sunday with a win that will make the second-leg clash in Sudan a mere formality.

“Our target is to score at least two or three unreplied goals right here in our backyard in Warri.

“We will not give the Sudanese side opportunity for an away goal, but if they manage to score then we must increase the goal tally to four or more.

“Everybody is in high spirits at the moment and we can’t wait to take on the visitors.

“That our first-round opponents withdrew before kickoff will not put us in any disadvantage as we were well prepared before they announced their sudden withdrawal.

“At least the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matches have helped to put us in competitive mood for the clash and I’m confident we will not disappoint Nigerians,” said the former Akwa United and Kano Pillars.

The reverse fixture is expected to be held in a week’s time at Al-Merrikh SC ground, the 45 000-seater Al-Merrikh Stadium in Omdurman, Sudan.
