Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Ayodeji Balogun, widely known as Wizkid, has set a global music record by becoming the first African artist to surpass 11 billion streams on Spotify.

The milestone was highlighted by music analytics handle @ChaftsAfrica on X (formerly Twitter), which celebrated Wizkid’s consistent streaming success from 1 billion up to 11 billion streams, naming him the leading African artist to reach each milestone.

This landmark achievement comes shortly after the release of his latest track, “State of Mind,” in collaboration with DJ Tunez on May 15. The song amassed more than 685,000 Spotify streams worldwide within its first 24 hours.

Earlier in January, Wizkid—affectionately called ‘Big Wiz’ by fans—also became the first African artist to reach 10 billion streams on Spotify. Music industry observers have hailed this latest milestone as a defining moment for African music on the global stage.

Wizkid’s continued success underscores the growing international influence of Afrobeats, cementing his status as one of the most-streamed African artists in music history.
