Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has urged members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) to use the opportunity of their conference to assess his government’s developmental strides.
The governor made the call at the ongoing All Nigeria Editors’ Conference (ANEC) in Port Harcourt.
He said that assessing the government’s performance in the past two years would provide it necessary information for more efficient performance.
“You were here last year, look at what you saw during your conference last year; see what we have done, and see what you can advise,’’ he said.
Wike said that the government had taken steps to undertake several projects in the state, including those that were not completed by previous administrations.
He said his administration had also commenced the renovation of 185 basic education schools across the state.
Wike further said that the National Industrial Court project was already ongoing and would soon be completed and handed over.
The governor said that the state was safe for both business and dwelling, adding “as you can see, several organsations are coming to hold conferences in the state’’.
He urged the media to investigate and hold politicians and public officers accountable in the interest of the nation and its development.
This year’s edition of ANEC is ‘Nigerian Media: Balancing professionalism, Advocacy and Business’.
