Why Obaseki must be reelected, by pensioners, Ososo people, Akoko Edo monarchs

Pensioners in Dagbala, Akoko Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, on Monday, commended Governor Godwin Obaseki for his prompt payment of pensions.
Mr Rufus Adogame, who spoke on behalf of the pensioners in the area, gave the commendation at Dagbara Ward 5 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial campaign ground.
“In the past, pensioners did get their pay after two or three months. But Obaseki has changed this narrative. We now get our pay as early as between the 24th and 26th of each month.
“We are here today to campaign for Governor Godwin Obaseki’s second term election and we are sure of his victory.
“Today, we want to assure him that we are ready to work for his re-election. His developmental strides have qualified him to contest under our great party, PDP,” he said.
Adogame further said that the people were happy for all the great things Obaseki was doing for them, and that they would mobilise for his re-election on September 19.
Also speaking, a former House of Representatives member, Mr Tunde Akogun, said that the people needed a man that was honest and committed to the development of the state.
“We all know the history of how pensioners took over the streets of Benin, but today that narrative has been changed by Governor Godwin Obaseki,” he said.
Akogun called on the people to come out in their large numbers to re-elect the governor at the September 19 governorship poll.
Also, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Leader  in Ososo,  Edo, Mr Bayo Ogedengbe, says the people of Ososo in Akoko Edo Local Government Area of Edo  are strongly behind Obaseki’s second term bid.
Ogedengbe gave the assurance while addressing PDP faithful at the PDP  gubernatorial election campaign ground on Monday in Ososo.
He said that the people kept tabs on the governor’s developmental strides across the 18 local government areas of the state.
“Where ever you go, Ososo will go. We are strongly behind your reelection.
“We have seen that you stood against godfatherism in the state.
“Your government brought the first  tarred road into Ososo. Our people are saying thank you.
“We stand to tell you that we are supporting you second term bid.
“We appealed to you Sir for the construction of Ososo-Okpella road which will further help to improve the economy of  both communities,” he said.
Also speaking, Mr Dan Orbir, a former PDP state chairman in Edo,  said that  Obaseki would listen to their plight.
“What we are talking about is that, we need a man who will put his interests aside and serve the people.
“We have decided to stay by the governor to serve for another four years,” he said.
Meanwhile, Obaseki has assured the people of the state that he will not disappoint them if re-elected, as he has laid the foundation for greater development in the state.
Obaseki made the pledge at the palace of Otaru of Igarra, Oba Emmanuel Saiki, where he solicited the royal father’s blessings and support for his re-election at the September 19 gubernatorial election in the state.
“I am seeking for a re-election because we have started a revolution of development in the last four years to make governance relevant to Edo people.
“We pay civil servants and pensioners on time; we have trained our teachers to be digital and now our children are learning well.
“We have improved on infrastructure in Igarra land and we will do more.
“At this period of COVID-19 pandemic, the people need a leader with focus who is concerned about the lives of the people of the state.
“Agriculture must be improved on and taken seriously as farming should be a priority because money from Abuja has been cut down.
“What you have seen in the last four years is small, compared to the great things that will follow in my second term. We have the experience that they don’t have.
“Our radical reforms have given us a solid foundation to build on. We will tackle security challenges in the state as we will finance the vigilance groups as they are well organised,” he said.
In his remarks, Oba Saiki, prayed God to continue to guide the governor in all his ways and urged him to continue to advise youths to shun political thuggery.
Contributing, the Chairman of Akoko Edo Traditional Council, Oba Patrick Okara, lauded Obaseki for his prompt response to COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
Okara further commended him for the rehabilitation of roads in Akoko-Edo, adding that there were more roads begging for attention across the region.
“We have been feeling the impact of your government, but we want to feel it more. We demand for any institution of higher learning in the oldest local government in Nigeria, Akoko-Edo,’’ he said.
He promised to mobilise traditional rulers from the area to vote for Obaseki on September 19.
