Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, on Friday visited former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his Abeokuta Hilltop residence, Ogun State.
Saraki, who arrived at Obasanjo residence at 9.10 a.m, was accompanied by Senators Andy Uba, Danjuma Goje, Sani Ahmed and Tayo Alasoadura.
The visitors immediately went into a closed-door meeting with Obasanjo, which ended by 11.08 a.m.
Saraki, who addressed newsmen after the meeting, said he was in Abeokuta to pay homage to Obasanjo and tap from his wealth of experience, knowledge and wisdom.
“We are here with my colleagues to see Baba Obasanjo who is one of our fathers and former President. We have come to pay our homage to him, get his blessing and to also get his advice.
“We all know President Obasanjo’s value to this country and we are here to tap from that wisdom and that knowledge and experience.’’
Saraki said that the new Senate had settled down and that procedures were moving on smoothly at the red chambers.
Saraki explained that the leadership of All Progressive Congress (APC) was working hard to reconcile its aggrieved members and gave an assurance that the crisis within the party would soon be resolved.
“As you can see, things are moving smoothly and definitely, you can be rest assured that the entire crisis within our party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) will soon be put behind us shortly. We are very confident about that,’’ he said.
Saraki said that the members of the Senate were ready to make all necessary sacrifice to ensure reduction in the cost of governance in Nigeria.
The Senate president expressed support for the call for a downward review of the salaries of members of the National Assembly.
“The situation in the country requires that every public servant should make sacrifices and whatever sacrifice that is necessary; we Senate members will make it.
“Be rest assured that we are sensitive and we are aware of the situation in the country and if we are going to lead, we must lead by examples and we will do that,” Saraki said.
