Why I didn’t receive Tukur at Yola Airport, by Nyako

Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State has explained why he didn’t go to the Yola International Airport last weekend to receive the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.

He said: “I was not formally invited to receive the National Chairman of the PDP. No PDP official or member approached me or made any telephone call across to me on the chairman’s visit.

“As far as I am concerned, there is no frosty relationship between me and the National Chairman. Our position as leaders of the party is to work collectively for the interest of the citizenry and not on our personal interest,” he stated.

On the proclamation of a state of emergency in Adamawa State, Nyako maintained that his administration is handling the situation in line with stipulated guidelines, to the expectation of Adamawa citizens in Adamawa who influenced the declaration for reasons best known to them, saying, his administration was able to impact positively on lives of citizenry.

The retired Naval Officer, who had earlier protested the inclusion of Adamawa State among the three states for emergency rule, said: “There are other states with more security challenges than Adamawa. The inclusion of our state is sad and shocking”.

While appealing to the citizens to remain calm, Nyako, however, admitted: “True, the state has witnessed a few criminal activities by hoodlums in the past few years, but so are other states in the federation. Adamawa is a peaceful state and will continue to remain peaceful”.
