APC

My Position on My Gubernatorial Ambition in Ekiti State

It is important to clarify a few issues in regard to the above subject:

1. I am irrevocably committed to a worthy successor to Ekiti State Governor John Kayode Fayemi (JKF) that can continue when he leaves office come October 2022.

2. No imposed candidate – and certainly not the one being bandied around – is, or can be, a worthy successor. Surprises do happen though.

3. I am irrevocably committed to a Southern District gubernatorial successor to JKF. This is for the sake of equity, justice and fairness, without sacrificing competence.

4. Both leading political parties in the state, APC and PDP, have symmetrically produced two Governors each (Adebayo, Fayemi for APC, Fayose, Oni for PDP) from the North (Oni, Fayemi) and Central (Adebayo, Fayose) for twelve years and eleven and a half years respectively. It is time both parties leaned South for gubernatorial preferment.

3. A number of Southern citizens – and yours truly – fit both bills above – viz. competence and Southern-ness.

4. I am of the firm opinion that a political party that does not field a strong Southern candidate stands a good chance of losing the next gubernatorial election because of Southern backlash, as well as from those who sincerely believe in justice, equity and fairness from.other districts. Ekiti DNA is for equity, justice and fairness.

5. I have made my positions known very clearly and publicly, to the Governor, to the Public and to my Party the APC.

6. For whatever reasons, the APC is not creating a level playing field for all aspirants, and consequently a bitter jamboree of aspirants is ensuing. It may all end ugly, with the strong possibility of a concomitant loss of power if steps are not revised or reversed early enough.

7. I have no interest in taking part in a skewed jamboree. You do not deliberately enter into a plane with a strong likelihood of crashing, even if somehow it lands safely after all.

There I stand.
