Well-articulated, inclusive policies fundamental to achieving Renewed Hope Agenda – Akume

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, (SGF), Dr George Akume, says a well-articulated, structured, inclusive and institutionalised approach to policy management is fundamental to achieving the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Akume made this known at a Stakeholders’ Validation Session on the Draft National Policy Development and Management Framework in Abuja.

The event was organised by the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, under the leadership of Dr Hadiza Usman.

The SGF stated that policy making was not a theoretical exercise, but a practical tool for governance and a mechanism through which governments translated national aspirations into concrete actions.

He described the session as an opportunity to refine the framework into an instrument that will endure and ensure that public policy was driven by data, aligned with national goals, and was responsive to the dynamic needs of the country.

”President Bola Tinubu remains committed to strengthening institutional frameworks, fostering a governance approach that was s focused on its citizens.

“Governance trives when policies and policy architecture itself is designed with input from diverse stakeholders and when their implementation is active and deliberate.

“This process cannot be left to changes, chances, nor can it afford the luxury of indecisions,” he said.

Akume said his office bears the responsibility of ensuring that policies are not only developed in line with national priorities, but also effectively implemented, monitored, and adopted in response to emerging realities

“Effective governance is built upon a foundation of strategic coordination, institutional synergy, and policy coherence.

“As the central hub for policy alignment and government-wide coordination, my Office is committed to ensuring that national policies are not only well-conceived but also effectively harmonised and implemented,” Akume said.

He said that the validation session was a testament to that commitment, adding that it was an opportunity to reinforce structures that promote efficiency, accountability, and results-driven governance.

He emphasised that a well-defined policy framework ensures that government interventions are streamlined, resources are optimally deployed, and national priorities remain at the core of decision-making.

“As we refine this framework, we move closer to institutionalising a governance culture where policies translate seamlessly into tangible outcomes for all Nigerians.

“Let us be clear; no framework, no matter how well-crafted, can succeed without a collective commitment to implementation. As we deliberate today, let us approach this exercise with a sense of purpose and responsibility.

“This validation session is not just about fine-tuning a document; it is about setting a new standard for governance in Nigeria,” he said.

Akume said that his office was about laying a strong foundation for an era where policies are not just aspirational statements, but instruments of real and measurable transformation.

“Let us seize this opportunity to shape a future where public policy is structured, coordinated, and most importantly, impactful.

“I commend the Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination for her diligence in driving this initiative forward and leading the development of the robust and instructive Draft Framework,” Akume said.
