We paid N180m to secure release of 14 Greenfield University students, say parents

Some angry parents of abducted Greenfield University students, Kaduna have revealed that they paid N180 million to secure their release on Saturday morning.
In a video that has gone viral, the parents lamented that the Kaduna State Government did not come to their aid.
Before the remaining 14 students were released on Saturday morning, five of the students were killed by their abductors.
One of the parents said: “Without the help of the government, we secured their release after paying N180 million. No government official did anything since they were abducted on April 20. The government did not even send a single policeman to go after the abductors”.
The Police Command in Kaduna State confirmed the release of the remaining 14 abducted students.
The Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, confirmed the development in Kaduna on Saturday.
Jalige, however, said that the details of their release would be communicated later.
The Kaduna State Government also confirmed the release of the  students in a statement by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan.
”The kidnapped students of the Greenfield University, who had been held hostage by bandits, have been released by their abductors.
“This was reported to the Kaduna State Government by security agencies.
According to the reports, at 2.p.m on Saturday, the hostages were found released on Kaduna-Abuja road.
“Fourteen persons were released in total, comprising students and staff. “he said
They were abducted by bandits in April and had been in captivity since then.
Five students were gruesomely killed by the bandits during the period.
According to the commissioner, Governor Nasir El-Rufai welcomes the news of the students’ release and conveyed solace and encouragement to them following their harrowing ordeal.
El-Rufai assured them that the bitterness of the last few weeks was over, adding that it would set the backdrop for positive achievements in their lives, as he wished them well for the future.
