The Media Officer of Glo Premier League club, Warri Wolves, Moses Etu has expressed the displeasure of the club’s management team on the decision of the Nigeria Football Federation Organising and Disciplinary Committee to upturn an earlier ruling by the League Management Company which awarded three points and three goals to the Warri club in a controversial away game against Akwa United in Uyo.
Etu has however restated that the Delta State-owned club are dissatisfied with the decision of the O and D and have thus launched an immediate appeal against it.
The Week 16 game played in Uyo was aborted after the first-half with the home side Akwa United already leading 2-0, after the referee alleged that he was attacked by the home fans and consequently refused to restart the game.
In spite of protests from the hosts the League Management Committee (LMC) subsequently awarded 3 points and 3 goals in favour of visiting Warri Wolves and further banished Akwa United to play the rest of their home games at the Rojenny Stadium in Oba, Anambra State.
The verdict of the LMC was however upturned by the O and D of the NFF in their latest meeting on Thursday after a thorough investigation of the incident was carried out. The committee has ordered that the second half be continued in Uyo in a yet to be decided date under the supervision of a different match official as referee Henry Ogunyanmade from Ondo who was at the centre of the controversy has been suspended indefinitely.
Akwa United have however welcomed the latest decision of the O&D with relief stating through their media officer Ekoh Uwem that justice has at last been served after hearing from both sides, unlike the LMC which acted on sensationalism.
