Veteran journalist, Augustine Madu-West, dies in Kano

A veteran journalist in Kano, Mr Augustine Madu-West, is dead.

Aged 53, Madu-West died in the early hours of Thursday at his residence in Dakata area of Kano metropolis after a brief illness.

The Secretary of the Kano State Correspondents Chapel of the NUJ, Alhaji Ibrahim Shu’aibu, announced the death in a statement in Kano.

The union said that the deceased left behind one wife and four children.

According to the statement, Madu-West, who hailed from Owerri, Imo, State, had practised journalism for 31 years in Kano.

The statement further said before his death, Madu-West was working with the National Mirror as its Kano Bureau Chief.

It described the deceased as a humble and complete gentleman, adding that his death was a great loss to his family,  entire members of the chapel and all journalists in the state.

The union said burial arrangement would be announced by the family at a later date.

Meanwhile, a condolence register has been opened at the NUJ Press Centre, Kano.
