Vance Says Iran Ceasefire Holding as Trump Pushes ‘Grand Bargain’

U.S. Vice President JD Vance has confirmed that the current ceasefire between the United States and Iran remains in place, while signalling that President Donald Trump is aiming for a broader, long-term agreement with Tehran.

Speaking at an event in Athens, Georgia, Vance said the truce is holding despite ongoing tensions, offering a window for continued diplomatic engagement.

He revealed that recent talks between U.S. and Iranian officials in Pakistan had recorded significant progress, although a final agreement has yet to be reached.

According to Vance, the delay is due to the administration’s pursuit of a more comprehensive deal rather than a limited arrangement.

He explained that the U.S. is seeking a framework that would ensure Iran does not develop nuclear weapons while also addressing broader security concerns.

The vice president added that the proposed agreement would also require Iran to halt support for militant groups and integrate more fully into the global economy.

Vance noted that the goal is to create conditions that allow the Iranian population to benefit from economic growth and international cooperation.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that preparations are underway for a possible second round of negotiations before the ceasefire expires.

According to sources cited by CNN, Vance may lead the U.S. delegation in the next phase of talks if they proceed.

Other key figures expected to participate include U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and senior adviser Jared Kushner.

The current ceasefire is expected to lapse within the next two weeks, with discussions reportedly ongoing about scheduling further talks, possibly later this week.

The developments highlight ongoing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and reach a lasting agreement between both nations.
