The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted accreditation to 36 courses out of the 37 presented by the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN).

The institution’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, disclosed this to newsmen on Tuesday, in Ilorin.

He said that the remaining one was given interim accreditation, adding that University of Ilorin aimed at sustaining the its ante of “Better-by-far appellation.”

“The result of the accreditation exercise carried out in October/November 2024 has just been released, as contained in a letter dated April 30, 2025.

“The letter was addressed to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole SAN, by the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu,” he said.

The director said that the letter, signed on behalf of Prof. Ribadu, by the NUC Ag. Director of Accreditation, Abraham Chundusu, explained that 36 courses were granted full accreditation status.

He said that the remaining course, Hausa, was granted interim accreditation.

Akogun said that courses in the Faculties of Management Sciences, Finance, Basic Medical Science, Anatomy, Computer Science, and Communication and Information Sciences were fully accredited.

“From the Faculty of Education, all the 17 academic programmes presented were granted accreditation, as well as from Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

“From the Faculties of Environmental Sciences, Clinical Sciences and Pharmaceutical Sciences, each of the programmes presented was given full accreditation.

“From the Faculty of Physical Sciences and Social Sciences, three academic programmes were accredited while four were accredited from the Faculty of Social Sciences,” he said.

The director, however, said that Igbo and Hausa were presented for accreditation from the Faculty of Arts and Igbo was granted full accreditation while Hausa was granted interim accreditation.

Reacting to the accreditation, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole said that the management, staff and students of the university received the news with excitement and a sense of fulfilment.

Egbewole said that they were happy to be so recognised and were indeed elated.

He said that the achievement was a confirmation of the consistent huge investment of the university administration on human and material resources.

The vice-chancellor assured that more efforts would be made to justify the recognition.

He thanked the Provost, the Deans, the Heads of Departments and all the Faculty members for their efforts in making the full accreditation possible.

“It is our hope that we will continue to do our best to position the university for more recognitions,” he said.
