Ukraine and Russia have once again exchanged the remains of soldiers killed in the fighting, Ukraine’s Coordination Staff for Prisoner of War Affairs said on Telegram on Thursday.
Ukraine received the bodies of 1,000 soldiers, the office said.
In return, the remains of 38 Russian soldiers were handed over, according to Russian negotiator Vladimir Medinsky.
The Ukrainian office thanked the International Committee of the Red Cross for helping to mediate the exchange.
Medinsky said the swap was carried out under agreements reached in 2025 in Istanbul, Turkey.
The two sides regularly exchange bodies of fallen soldiers.
According to official figures, Ukraine received more than 15,000 bodies in 2025 alone, while Russia received only a fraction of that number.
Ukraine has said that the steady advance of Russian forces has. at times, prevented its troops from recovering fallen soldiers from the battlefield.
Ukraine has been defending itself against a full-scale Russian invasion for nearly four years.
