Ugwuanyi presents 2021 Appropriation Bill of N169.8bn

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, on Wednesday, presented a 2021 budget proposal of N169.8 billion to the State Assembly.
Ugwuanyi said that the 2021 budget estimate was 13 per cent higher than the 2020 revised budget of N169.5billion.
The governor said that the 2021 budget estimate was made up of N101. 1 capital expenditure which represents 60 per cent of the estimated budget size.
He said that the recurrent expenditure stood at N68.1billion representing 40 per cent of the estimated budget size.
The governor said that the budget estimate had a recurrent revenue of N110.08billion and recurrent expenditure of N68.7billion.
Ugwuanyi said that the recurrent revenue would be raised from the statutory allocation from the Federation Account, Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and the opening balance from the 2020 budget.
The governor said that revenue from the Federation Account stood at N65.8 billion with N29.2 billion Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and N16 billion opening balance.
The governor said that the capital expenditure of the estimated budget would be devoted to the building of major infrastructure in the state including fertiliser and rice mills one flyover bridge, landscaping of the International Confefence Centre and others.
He also said that the ESUT Teaching Hospital, Igboano would receive more attention under the 2021 budget.
Ugwuanyi said that in spite of the economic challenges in the country, the 2020 budget of the state achieved a good measure of success.
He said that as at the end of the third quarter, the 2020 budget had recorded 52 per cent performance.
Ugwuanyi commended the state assembly for the seamless relationship it had with the executive arm of government.
Responding, the Speaker of the assembly, Chief Edward Ubosi, said that he was delighted at the performance of the state government.
Ubosi expressed concern that Nsukka was still backward in terms of development and appealed to the governor to do everything within his means to develop the area.
He said that the assembly would give the budget expeditious attention.
