Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has pledged continuous support for federal health agencies in the state.

He gave the assurance on Friday, when he received in audience, the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Olorunnimbe Mamora, at the Government House, Enugu.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Mrs Cecilia Ezeilo, Ugwuanyi appealed to the Federal Government to assist the state in solving some issues it faced in the health sector.

He intimated the minister that the state government, on Thursday, flagged-off the mass vaccination campaign against COVID-19 pandemic with a target of 50 per cent of the eligible population vaccinated by February, 2022.
He said: “Following the lead and support provided by the National Primary HealthCare Development Agency(NPHCDA), your ministry’s flagship agency for the vaccination exercise, the state government is leaving no stone unturned to achieve the target of the campaign
“As I speak, more than 300 vaccination sites have been activated across the state for the exercise”.
The governor commended the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu on the developmental strides “it has been recording in recent times in terms of physical and growth, remarkable attainments in medical research and management of diseases, provision of core medical services and general community services.
“What we and the entire World have seen coming out of NOHE these past few years can only be the product of a combination of a good board and sound dedicated and hard-working management and staff ”
He also commended the agencies and formations of the federal ministry of health in their continuing improvement of the people’s access to quality hospital and medical services on the role they played at the peak of the fight against the Corona virus pandemic ,which he said was very outstanding and heroic .

The governor said that the challenges are not abating. “Therefore, as a government we would like to request the Honourable minister to use his good offices to ensure that there is a marked improvement in the response time to our requests for support and assistance over sundry issues that require the intervention of your
ministry”, Ugwuanyi said.

Earlier, Mamora said that he was in Enugu on a working visit. He added that he commissioned some projects at the National Orthopaedic Hospital.
The projects, he said, would be beneficial to Enugu residents and others and would serve as a referral centre.

He commended Ugwuanyi for his developmental strides in the state, especially the state government’s support to the health sector.
He described Ugwuanyi as a “calm gentleman” who has brought that attribute of calmness to his administration in Enugu.
He thanked Ugwuanyi for bringing government closer to the people.

In the Minister’s entourage were the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Ikechukwu Emmanuel Obi, Medical Director of National Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu, Dr. Cajetan Nwadinigwe, Chief Medical Director of Neopsychiatric Hospital, Enugu, Professor Monday Igwe, the Rector, Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy, Dr. John Emaimo, among others.
