Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has performed the ground breaking/ foundation laying stone for the proposed Administrative building of the Enugu State House of Assembly.

Performing the function at the project site within the House of Assembly premises on Monday, Ugwuanyi expressed joy on the cordial relationship that exists between the Executive and the Legislature, saying, “I would not had wished for a better legislature”.

He said that the new office complex sitting on 3,500 square metres has facilities such as 14 offices at upper floor and 15 offices at the ground floor. They are 29 offices in number.

Commending members of the Assembly, Ugwuanyi said: “We are blessed with a responsible legislature”.

He recalled that his administration built 34 model customary courts buildings in 17 local government areas among other buildings built in different courts across the state.
Ugwuanyi said that the Assembly tells the Enugu story having housed the defunct Eastern Region parliament, East Central state parliament, the old Anambra State parliament and the old Enugu parliament when Ebonyi State was part of Enugu State.
The governor noted that it has undergone several renovations and now, a new administrative complex, adding that the building will accommodate 24 House members and their supporting staff.

Speaking, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Greg Nnaji, said that the complex is covering a total of 3,500 square metres.
It is a building with two floors, a ground floor and the upper floor. It has 29 offices with a befitting conference room for the speaker, 14 offices down and 15 offices upstairs, with additional offices for their officers and people who are working with them.
He said that the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure had done the needful by testing the soil sample.
“We have taken soil samples, we have gone to the lab and the bearing capacity of the sand is completely adequate for this complex.
“The standard for this public building is in strict compliance with all public buildings and practices of engineering all over the world”.
Speaker of the Assembly,
Edward Ubochi, thanked Ugwuanyi for the renovation works he performed at the Assembly Complex.
He said that the lawmakers now use digital microphones.
“Your Excellency, where do I start to thank you? The environment is now conducive. Your Excellency, do I start from the gate. You can see the wonderful gate you constructed for this Honourable House. The hallowed chamber is well furnished. We are now using digital mic.
“When we finish this building, we will not have any need to go to hotel to do one or two things. This place is very conducive.
“Your Excellency, when we finish this, we will not have to disturb you about any other thing again.”

The speaker assured the governor of members’ continuous support to his administration.
“This 7th Assembly will never forget you, Your Excellency”, Ubosi said.
