Former Head of State and Chairman of Nigeria Prays, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, has described Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State as God-sent to the people of the state.
Gowon made the commendation in Enugu at a one-day prayer rally organised by the Nigeria Prays Network for the South East zone at Grace of God Mission Church.
He extolled Ugwuanyi for his disposition to people-oriented governance exemplified in the numerous achievement he had recorded within a short time in office.
“Within a short time in office, Ugwuanyi has constructed numerous rural and urban roads, provided adequate security and education,” he said.

The elder statesman charged church leaders and those in position of authority to be alive to their responsibilities for the unity and survival of the country.

Gowon noted that the rally would encourage Nigerians to pray constantly and intensively for God’s divine intervention to liberate them from the current economic hardship.

The former head of state explained that with collective prayer, God would surely proffer amicable solutions to some of the lingering issues pressing down the economy of the country.

He observed that the socio-economic challenges in the country were responsible for the criminal and social vices.

Gowon urged the leaders to create employment for the youths and be transparent in all their dealings.

He described Enugu State as the `point of contact’ for the South East following the conducive environment in the state in the areas of security and infrastructural facilities.

In a response, Ugwuanyi said that the national prayer rally had created an opportunity for church leaders, the clergy and other Nigerians to pray as it concerned the country’s economic challenges.

The governor commended the organisers of the network, saying that ‘Nigeria Prays’ would go a long way to remind people of the need to change from their evil ways.
