Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has inaugurated a 13-man State Committee on Food and Nutrition to formulate appropriate strategies to increase the Food and Nutrition of the populace “at this COVID-19 era”.
Inaugurating the committee in Government House, Ugwuanyi, who was represented by his deputy, Mrs Cecilia Ezeilo, charged the Committee members to focus on improving the Food and Nutritional intake of the populace, saying that “This programme arises from the directives of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum as they called for revitilisation of state committee on food and nutrition.
” You are charged with formulation of appropriate strategies, programme, policies, managing quality data on food, nutrition and others.
The terms of reference included: Providing necessary technical, professional assistance, support and oversight to the State Ministry of Budget and Planning in planning for food and nutrition, and review of program implementation.
“Review on continuous basic nutrition policies and programmes.
“Ensuring that member MDAs/ Organisations undertake implementation of various policies and programs among others.
” To establish a much nutrition plan by increasing spending of nutrition .
The Deputy Governor expressed optimism that the calibre of personalities on the committee will deliver .
In a brief remark, the UNICEF representative, Mrs Hanifa Namusoke, observed that there are so many under federal children in the society. She admonished parents on the importance of healthy living, appealing to both parents and government to ensure good personal hygiene, healthy environment and healthy living of their children .
In a vote of thanks, chairman of the committee, Mr Casmir Ugwu, thanked the state government for choosing them to serve.
“We have to do this for the good of our children and I want to ensure her Excellency that we are committed in achieving the objectives,” Ugwu said.
