Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State says his administration is firmly committed to eliminating all forms of crime and insecurity in the state.
Ugwuanyi said this on Thursday in Enugu during the inauguration of the 2019 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members deployed to the state.
The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Simon Ortuanya, said the state remained safe in spite of recent security challenges.
He assured the corps members of their safety in any part of the state they would be deployed for their primary assignments.
“I want to assure you of the determination of this administration in combating crime and eliminating insecurity in any guise in the state.
“The ongoing recruitment of 1,700 forest guards to complement the efforts of law enforcement agents is a testimony to our resolve in keeping the state safe.
“You are, therefore, safe in any part of the state you may be posted for your primary assignment after the orientation course,” Ugwuanyi said.
Earlier, the Coordinator of NYSC in the state, Mr Gabriel Dewan, said that 1,541 corps members were participating in the orientation course.
Dewan appealed to the corps members to take seriously the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurial Development (SAED) scheme during the course and the service year.
He said that the SAED scheme would afford the corps members the opportunity to acquire vocational jobs.
The state coordinator said that the ongoing establishment of skills centres across the six geopolitical zones of the country by the NYSC was a testimony to the seriousness it attached to the scheme.
Dewan said that Enugu State had been chosen to host the centre in the South East zone.
“When operational, the centre will expand its training to accommodate the youth in the zone,” he said.
Dewan commended the state government for making good its promise of restoring electricity to the camp adding, “the camp has seen electricity for the first time in many years.”
He appealed to the state government to provide the state office with utility vehicles for easy supervision of corps members serving in the state.
