Uduaghan reaffirms commitment to urban renewal

emmanuel_uduaghan2Gov. Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta, on Saturday reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to urban renewal in the state.

Uduaghan made the remark in Warri at the commissioning of the re-branded Enerhen Junction in the Uvwie Local Government Area.

The governor said Jakpa Junction and Hausa Quarters were among other junctions in the Warri/Effurun metropolis selected for the ongoing urban renewal exercise.

He said before the execution of the modern Enerhen junction, the place was known for heavy traffic congestion, as well as a hideout for criminals.

While commending the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, His Royal Highness Emmanuel Sideso, and the traders, for their cooperation, Uduaghan urged residents of the area to keep the junction clean.

“We must keep this junction clean, no dumping of refuse,’’ he stressed.

The governor assured the people that work on the flyover at the Effurun Roundabout would soon commence.

The Commissioner for Special Duties (Special Infrastructure), Mrs Orezi Esievo, said that the Enerhen junction was one of the 12 junctions/road interceptions selected for development by the governor.

Esievo said that the 12 selected projects were part of the state’s Urban Renewal Strategy, adding that they were in Asaba and Warri/Effurun, at a total cost of N3.176 billion.

She said that the aim of the projects were to decongest the junctions and promote free flow of traffic, thereby enhancing social and economic activities.

“Enerhen junction was selected because it was easily the most challenging in terms of traffic congestion and other hardships. The project was completed on schedule,’’ she said.

Esievo, however, appealed to residents who may have initiated litigations against the contractor and the government in the course of the work to sheath their swords.

She urged them to support the government’s vision to transform Delta to a modern state.
