Truancy among civil servants worries Al-Makura

Governor Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State on Saturday decried truancy among some civil servants in the North-Central state.
A statement in Lafia by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Alhaji Tukur Ahmed, quoted Al-Makura as expressing this feeling at a meeting with Permanent Secretaries.
Al-Makura warned that government would not condone any act of insubordination and truancy and civil servants.
“Government will not hesitate to apply sanctions in accordance with civil service rules and regulations against anybody caught indulging in such acts,” he said.
He said perpetrators of act would be regarded as saboteurs of government’s efforts aimed at improving the well being of the people.
“We are here to serve the people as such all of us should endeavour to do our best and not to shy away from our responsibilities,“ he said.
The governor warned civil servants who are in the habit of converting government property to personal use, saying that such persons would be dealt with according to the dictates of the law.
“In other to ensure zero tolerance to such criminal behaviour, government will establish a desk officer to handle criminal-related matters in the civil service,” he said.
He said that efforts were being made to make ministries, agencies and departments to be more efficient with the aim of reducing the cost of governance.
Al-Makura re-assured civil servants in the state that the exercise was not an attempt to retrench workers but to strengthen the civil service.
