Tribunal dismisses ex-House of Reps Leader’s petition

The petition by the immediate past Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Mulikat Akande-Adeola, against the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Chief Ebenezer Segun Ogunwuyi, was on Wednesday dismissed by the three-man Oyo State National and State Assemblies Election Petitions Tribunal.
Akande-Adeola, a two-term lawmaker in the Lower Chamber of the National Assembly, contested the March 28 election (Ogbomoso North, Ogbomoso South and Oriire Federal Constituency) on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and lost to Ogunwuyi.
To her, Ogunwuyi was not qualified to contest the election because he did not validly resign his membership of PDP before joining the LP.
But the Justice James Abundaga-led tribunal‎ dismissed Akande-Adeola’s petition because it was filed out of time and was, therefore, deemed abandoned.
After the judgement, she vowed to go on appeal.
