Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has stressed his commitment to work with the Nigerian Air Force and other security agencies towards maintaining law and order in the North-West state.
He made the assertion while receiving the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshall Sadique Baba Abubakar, who visited him at the Government House in Kano.
The governor stated that security is very vital to Kano in view of its cosmopolitan nature and its potential as an emerging mega city.
Ganduje was particularly happy that the Air Force is working with other security agencies toward restoring normalcy to Falgore forest, which has become a hideout for criminals, especially cattle rustlers.
“Our intention is to resettle Fulani herdsmen in the forest so that they would abandon their nomadic way of life which often exposes them to hardship and security risks”, the governor said.
He also commended the Nigerian Airforce for helping in checking the influx of adulterated and expired drugs as well as arms and ammunition to the state through the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport.
The governor stated that his administration is embarking on “a green project” near the area affected by erosion at the Nigerian Airforce Base in Kano to save the environment from degradation.
In his remarks, Abubakar announced plans to expand the infrastructure and deploy more personnel to the NAF base in Kano in view of the strategic importance of the state.
He said the force, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, “is working relentless to address security challenges in North eastern Nigeria”, stressing that since the Buhari administration came on board, the number of pilots, airplanes and Air force infrastructure has greatly improved.
