The Wife of the President, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, has donated N100 million to victims of tanker explosion in Niger State.
She announced the donation when she visited Gov. Umaru Bago of Niger at the Government House in Minna on Tuesday, to commiserate with him over the recent tanker explosion in the state.
Freedomonline recalls that the tanker explosion which occurred on Jan. 18 at Diko-Maje Road in Gurara Local Government Area of the state claimed many lives and injured others.
Tinubu said the donation was aimed at supporting families affected by the tanker explosion at Diko-Junction.
“We are looking at supporting about 70 families through the governor’s wife, Hajiya Fatima Bago, with each family receiving N1 million to help them settle.
“The remaining money will cover extra expenses like food items,” she said.
She commended the governor’s efforts in rehabilitating the affected families and lauded his administration’s strides in agriculture.
Responding, Bago expressed gratitude to the wife of the President for her visit to the state to commiserate with the people over recent losses.
The governor appreciated the wife of the president’s personal visit, saying it was a morale booster for the people of the state.
“The visit will serve as morale booster to people who have been affected by the tanker explosion at Diko-Junction.
“We appreciate your widow’s mite, for donating N100 million through my wife to support the victims’ families,” he said.
Freedomonline reports that the wife of the president had earlier paid a private visit to former military rulers, Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar.
