Thugs invade Ondo Assembly Complex, as Speaker tasks NURTW members on peaceful election

To prevent some lawmakers opposed to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State from sitting, some political thugs invaded the Ondo State House of Assembly Complex in Akure on Monday.
The lawmakers had refused to back the impeachment move against the deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi.
The thugs were strategically placed and some workers, who did not know their mission, locked themselves in their offices.
Although some security agents were seen around, no move was made to ask the thugs what they were doing around.
News of the invasion travelled fast and to save the face of the Assembly, the Speaker, Mr Bamidele Oleyelogun, who described them as members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), later addressed them, saying they were on a peaceful mission to the complex.
He said they were in the complex to assure the lawmakers that the October 10 governorship election in the state would be peaceful.
Oleyelogun noted that there was need to ensure a peaceful and credible election in the state “at this point in time”.
The speaker, who lauded the leadership of the union for its peaceful disposition to electoral matters, enjoined them to continue following the path of peace ahead the election, saying that all stakeholders should eschew anything that could lead to crisis either before, during and after the election.
Oleyelogun pledged the Assembly’s support to the union, saying that all hands must be on deck to ensure improved standards for the people of the state.
The speaker also denied that some suspended lawmakers, who were recently reinstated by the state High Court, were being denied access to the House.
Responding, Mr Jacob Adebo, the state Chairman of NURTW, thanked the lawmakers for the timely engagement, describing it as particularly relevant and timely.
Adebo commended the unprecedented strides of Akeredolu in the 18 council areas of the state, promising the lawmakers of peaceful co-existence before, during and after election.
He expressed the support of NURTW members for the second term bid of the Akeredolu administration, to enable it to further consolidate on its achievements in the state.
